Tight Corsets of Morality – A Reflection on Boundaries and Authenticity

Olga Guarch Andreu presents “Tight Corsets of Morality”, a contemporary artwork exploring how moral boundaries shape and sometimes confine our search for authenticity.

At its center stands a geometric corset made of papier-mâché, inlaid crystals, and an assemblage of recycled and found materials.
Suspended by golden chains within an ornate frame, the corset becomes both a metaphor for restriction and a celebration of creative liberation.
The use of upcycled materials reinforces transformation as an artistic act — turning everyday fragments into expressions of meaning and beauty.

Vaudeville and Drag as Sources of Inspiration

Inspired by vaudeville—a 19th-century theatrical genre that defied conventions through humor and spectacle—the piece embraces irony and inclusivity.
Through its connection to drag culture, “Tight Corsets of Morality” honors artistic freedom, diversity, and the courage to challenge imposed norms.

A Symbolic and Vibrant Creation

The golden frame, filled with eclectic found objects and reflective textures, evokes both decadence and liberation.
Each crystal, chain, and paper fragment embodies the tension between structure and expression.
Ultimately, the piece invites viewers to ask:
Are our convictions flexible—or are we beautifully confined within our own golden frames?
